Make A Difference Day

We've got a worthwhile way to spend it!!!

The
Miracle League of NWA is a unique sports league and field in
Springdale. They offer special needs children a place to safely
play ball on a baseball field that is built just for them. Each
child gets a hit and scores a run, making their way base to base
whether they are running, using a walker or rolling in a
wheelchair. A volunteer buddy stays with them during the entire
game so that their parents can enjoy being a spectator. Parents
of special needs children usually find themselves in a 24/7
caregiver role. Most receive few opportunities to sit in the
stands to cheer their children on in activities such as these.
Fall 2010 was the opening season for the NWA location of the Miracle
League. An impressive 120+ participants were enrolled in
the inaugural season with predictions for Spring to be even larger
enrollment. While the enrollment cost is $25 per child for the
season, no child is ever turned away. Everyone gets to play. Those
that cannot afford the fee are granted scholarships. The ML found
that the need for scholarships was higher than expected for this
first season. In addition, the ML has a few items that are still
needed for their location and they are trying to establish an
operating budget.

23, 2011 marks the 21st anniversary. What better day could there be
for playing a Fall charity softball tournament?!
